STOP THE PREJUDICE AGAINST MUSIC!
Music is first music before it is gospel or secular. There are lots of popular songs from the 70s till date that I can play smoothly on the piano without missing a note, yet I don’t even know two lines from their lyrics, some I can’t remember the name of the singer. Music is deeper than the label it carries. Music transcends classification. The reach and lifespan of a song outshines that of it’s composers or singers. I would put the Nicki and Cobbs song on replay in my car for a year if I loved it and still won’t be able to sing the lyrics or vet its spirituality, because there are deeper things to listen for. Do I have a witness? In the next 10 years, Nicki and Cobbs might have changed their faiths and orientation about life, but that song won’t change – just the way we have some former secular singers turn gospel, their previous works can never be retrieved from us. So why judge a book by its cover? I have thousands of songs from all cultures and languages of the world in my Playlist, it’s non of my business what they’re saying as long as the groove in the music suits my taste.
Music serves so much more purpose than spirituality. Music is like a home or office that you’re renting; do you ask if the landlord is born-again or if he made his money from the right source?? If you love it and if it serves purpose, don’t you simply just pay for it? Come to think of it, the controversy about Nicki and Cobbs is this big because Christians all over the world know who Nicki Minaj is, infact more than Tasha Cobbs. That means Christians have been experiencing so much of Nicki Minaj that we know she is so “unholy and unfit” to sing to God. So, I am guessing it’s not bad for Christians to listen to secular music, the abomination is when secular artists sing with Christians? Can you see your life?? Our level of Hypocrisy has hit an all-time high.
A song is a simple work of art, and just like other works of art, it doesn’t matter the faith of who made it, if it’s good, give it winds and let it fly.
